An ‘off the shelf’ oak staircase was originally installed in this imposing farmhouse in Hampshire, in the 1980s. Being the focal point of the grand hallway, the staircase was far from being in keeping with the character of the house. Along with the ‘wrap and clad’ refurbishment of the staircase, our work also involved supplying and fitting a number of bespoke six panelled oak doors, oak flooring and an ornate carved overmantel.
Work in progress
Both sides of the string were clad in solid oak, and the bottom newel posts replaced. The remaining newel posts were clad and new handrails, balusters and finials installed, along with a solid oak curved bottom tread. All components were aged, stained and polished by hand in our workshops, prior to installation, with a final polish taking place on site.
