We were commissioned to refurbish the main staircase in this stunning Cotswold Manor House.
The previous owners had installed an American oak cut string staircase and painted MDF dado panelling to the main entrance hall, in the early 1970s. Our client, the new owner, felt the staircase lacked any period characteristics which would complement the age of the house.
Work in progress
The project commenced with the removal of the existing handrails, newel posts and balusters, and the treads and risers were stripped, aged and re polished. The open string was replaced by a closed string, and by doing so, enabled us to increase the size of the new newel posts, handrails and balusters, giving the staircase a more authentic and opulent feel. Once the staircase had been renovated, we installed carved dado panelling to the entire hallway, which continued up the staircase wall.
